More on Gilles Leroux

Gilles has been working in the field of holistic health since 1998. Graduated with a bachelor's degree (1991) and a master's degree (1994) in biology from the Université de Montréal, he has reoriented his career in natural approaches. A graduate of ÉESNQ (École d'enseignement supérieur de naturopathie du Québec) in 2005, Gilles became a member of ANAQ (Association des naturopathes agréés du Québec), a rigorous naturopathic association in Quebec.

Gilles has been practicing naturopathy since 2005 in Montreal where he has continued to pursue his education through continuing education in functional approach, nutritherapy and ortho molecular approach, including the Functional medicine clinical series in 2006 with Kristie Hughes ND, Bob Rakowski DC, Michael Wald MD, Joseph Collins ND, Jacob Kornberg MD, among others. In January 2011 Gilles began the new doctoral program in naturopathy at ÉESNQ (4500 hours), a naturopathy program offered in Toronto (CCNM) and Vancouver (Institut Boucher), but offered for the first time in French in Quebec.

Gilles received his PhD in Naturopathic Sciences in September 2018. He works according to the laws prescribed in Quebec. He has also given several conferences on the Plateau Mont-Royal for senior citizens as part of Projet Changement.

Gilles has a multidisciplinary approach using nutrition therapy (vitamins, minerals, plants, amino acids, probiotics), traditional Chinese medicine (suction cups, moxas, guasha, auriculotherapy) and hydrotherapy with his patients. An individualized approach is recommended where the importance of healthy eating, stress management, physical activity and the impact of the environment are taken into account, the so-called 4 pillars of health. By giving your tools to the body, you promote the person's overall well-being in order to achieve optimal health. Gilles uses an integrated approach to address endocrine problems (thyroid, diabetes, autoimmune disease), body composition (weight management, muscle mass gain and fat loss), stress management, sleep management, sports nutrition, digestive health, fertility problems, low libido, PMS, menopause, chronic fatigue.

Gilles is certainly passionate about naturopathy, holistic medicine and recent research in the field. Endowed with a beautiful personality and strong of his scientific training, he wishes to accompany you in your approach towards this well-being and this balance by a professional care and rigour.

Naturopathy in North America

Naturopathic medicine was only introduced to the United States in the late 19th century, but its practices have been part of traditional cultures since ancient times.

Early healers used food, herbs and water to cure diseases and naturopaths still use them today.

Modernly licensed naturopaths, with the title ND, are trained as primary care physicians and experts in holistic and integrative medicine.

Patients consult naturopaths for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all acute and chronic diseases.

Unlike other medical paradigms focused on symptomatic treatment, naturopathic medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, treats each person individually, focuses on comprehensive treatment using the least invasive options, prevents disease and promotes physical and mental well-being.

Naturopathic doctors work one-on-one with patients in clinics and hospitals, but they also act as experts on advisory boards.

In the United States, military physicians sit on the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the Advisory Committee on Medicare Coverage.

They are also researchers and members of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine National Institutes of Health advisory committee.

Frequently asked questions

How is naturopathic medicine different from conventional medicine?

The main difference lies in the philosophical approach. While most emergencies must be treated with conventional medicine, naturopathic medicine is often the best approach for the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases with an emphasis on diet and lifestyle. Colds and flu are also effectively treated with naturopathic medicine because the therapies used support the body's immune system.

What is the difference between naturopathy and homeopathy?

Naturopathy encompasses the entire spectrum of natural medicine, of which homeopathy is only one part. Homeopathy is a system that uses very small doses of natural substances to stimulate the body's ability to heal, and is therefore based on many of the same principles as naturopathy. Homeopaths often only prescribe homeopathic medicines, while naturopaths use homeopathy and other therapies.

What conditions do naturopathic doctors see?

All of them. Naturopathic medicine focuses on the health of the whole body and not on the specific disease. Our supportive care can provide increased vitality to restore health and balance.

Are NDs opposed to drugs and major surgery?

No. NDs are not opposed to invasive or suppressive measures when these methods are necessary. We work in collaboration with many other health professionals to provide the best comprehensive patient care.

Is naturopathic medicine reliable?

Naturopathic medicine emphasizes prevention and the process of self-healing in order to treat each person in a holistic way. Significant research shows that lifestyle change programs that focus on nutritional interventions, exercise and emotional well-being can sometimes effectively reverse the progression of chronic diseases. Naturopaths and conventional physicians can also work together to provide more personalized health care.
